WMS Media Center Information for Students & Parents

Checkout Policies

Circulation:

Students may check out books and magazines from the Media Center.  Books are circulated for two-week periods.  It is the student’s responsibility to check-out/renew books.

Reference books are circulated for one night only.  Students may check the reference book out at the end of the school day and return it promptly at the beginning of the next school day.

Magazines are circulated for 2 weeks.

Students may renew books, but only one 2-week renewal per book is permitted.

Checkout Process:

Students visit the Media Center for book checkout on a regular basis with their Language Arts classes; however, students are also encouraged to visit the Media Center individually as their reading/curriculum needs dictate.   Students may place a book “on reserve” when the book they wish to read is already in use.  The Media Center staff will notify the student’s Language Arts teachers when the book becomes available.

Overdue, Lost, and Damaged Books:

The use of the Media Center and its resources is a privilege, and WMS students are expected to keep their accounts current.  Students who do not return their materials on time prohibit others from checking them out.  WMS does not charge fines for overdue books; however, students ARE responsible for paying for lost or damaged books.

Students receive a verbal notification when there is an overdue book.  If the book is a month late, the Media staff contacts the students’ homes via notes and/or phone calls.  When a student has an item that is over thirty (30) days overdue, his/her borrowing privileges are suspended until the book is returned.

Students must pay for lost or damaged books.

Internet and Email Acceptable Use Policy:

All students registered in the Wake County Public School System will automatically be given access to the Internet.  Parents have the option of denying a child’s access to the Internet.  To exercise this option, a parent should complete and return the parental Request to Deny Access form.  Unless otherwise stated, the parent acknowledges that parent and child have read, understand and agree to the acceptable use of these services as stated in the Wake County Public School System’s Student Internet Access and Electronic Mail Policy (6446).  The policy can be found inn the Parents & Students Handbook.

**  Any violation of the Wake County Public School System/Wakefield Middle School Acceptable Use Policy will result in disciplinary action.
